Centre for the Study of Nature, Culture, and Architecture “Supii Lake”

In 2019, Yevhen Dovhaliuk purchased his dream house near Lake Supii — a place he planned to make his home to stay closer to the wild nature while staying connected to people. Here, he could pursue his hobbies, find inspiration, and provide research. Soon, he realized that the unique wetlands and floating islands of Lake Supii were not only a picturesque location, but also deserving of thorough study and promotion. This led him to the idea of founding the Centre for the Study of Nature, Culture, and Architecture “Lake Supii” and the public organization “Save and Explore”.

The house by the lake became a hub for scientific research, local history expeditions, educational projects, and tourism in Yahotyn local community. Yevhen observing biodiversity every day, making photos and videos, and documenting his findings using citizen science apps such as iNaturalist and Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab. He tirelessly encourages others to explore and appreciate the local nature. The results of his expeditions have been compiled into photo albums and tourist guides, including:

There are local tours for visitors at Lake Supii ecostation, and also here principles of sustainable development, ecoactivism, and citizen science are promoted. The centre produces eco-educational materials and media content, engages in birdwatching, and conducts biodiversity inventories.

In 2024, Yevhen transformed one of his utility buildings into the Volunteer House. During its renovation, he reused building materials, restored and repaired furniture, and repurposed other items. Following the same sustainable principles, the eco-station plans to construct a separate Library Module and a Birdwatching Tower.
